Alex Turns 5!!!

I know this post is a few weeks late, but better late than never I guess!

GiGi brought Alex a special cake from a bakery in Amarillo. So, we had two cakes--one for home and one for the party. Now Alex thinks this is the norm and a great tradition ;)

We had Alex's 5th birthday party at the Gymnastics Sport Center. The theme was superheros, specifically Spiderman, Superman, and Batman. Last year, Gary, Alex, & I all wore Spiderman shirts to his party. This year, the whole family sported their inner super hero for this very special occasion! Even little Evan showed off his batman onesie.

Uncle Jody was worn out after being attacked by four five-year-old superheros! Also, the Spiderman masks were a hit.

Spring 'Break'???

Well, our Spring Break was by no means a break, but we sure had a lot of fun!!!

Gary and Alex started off the week with a fishing trip while Evan and I hung out at home.

Bath time that night was lots of fun :)

On Tuesday, Evan got to take his first trip to the zoo!!!

We took Alex to Chuck E. Cheese's on his real birthday. The boys played pirates when we got home. Lol!!!

A Trip Down Birthday Memory Lane...

I can't believe it, but Alex turns 5 this coming week. We are all getting geared up for our Superhero party next Saturday! Superman, Batman, Spiderman, & the rest of the gang will all be there!

For me as a parent, birthdays are bitter-sweet. Of course Gary and I always look forward to Alex's birthday almost as much as Alex does. The look of sheer delight and excitement as he blows out his candles and celebrates with his family and friends brings such joy to me as a mom. It gives us a chance to look at our precious son and reflect on how much he has changed and grown over the past year. But, it is still hard to watch him grow up as it happens way too fast!

So, as I was reminiscing, I thought I would let all of you take a look back with me as we get ready to celebrate #5 :)

Alex's First Birthday (Puppy Dog Theme)

Alex's Second Birthday (Madagascar...He LOVED Giraffes)

Alex's Third Birthday (Scooby Doo at McDonalds--Alex's "happy place")

Alex's Fourth Birthday (Spiderman at the GSC...this was FUN!)

Note the band-aid under his chin. He busted his chin open two days before his party! The doctor gave him four stitches since he was turning four...fun times!

Sad Day...

So, I just wanted to let all of you know that Gary and I had to have Deacon put down on Monday (March 2). It was one of the hardest things we have ever had to do, but we know it was for the best for him. Trying to explain all of it to Alex has been tough as well. However, in the midst of all of the sadness, Gary and I have talked about funny stories and happy times that we had with Deacon that we haven't mentioned in a while. Anyway, we just wanted to thank all of you for the calls, e-mails, texts, and cards. We truly appreciate it!
